85-year-old remanded in prison for allegedly killing scavenger

AN 85-year-old man, Mohammed Bello was on Friday remanded in prison for allegedly clubbing a man to death.Bello, who was arraigned before an Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrates’ Court, committed the crime on January 17, at about 11.30 a.m. at Ogudu Grammar School.
It was gathered that a fight had ensued between the deceased (Ismaila Ibrahim), a scavenger and another man over scavenging in the school environment.
Bello had stepped in to settle the fight but that action did not go down well with Ibrahim, who felt Bello’s involvement had given the other man an upper hand in the fight.
The deceased started abusing Bello, who got angry and picked up a plank with which he hit the deceased on the head, which led to his death.

The presiding Magistrate, K.A. Ariyo, ordered that the octogenarian be remanded in prison and adjourned the case till February 28, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution.

Heavily armed policemen on Tuesday in Dutse, Jigawa State capital, fired teargas canisters at a crowd that gathered at the Chief Magistrate Court Two for the arraignment of former governor Sule Lamido, who is being tried for making inciting remarks. A middle aged man has been arrested in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital for being in possession of human parts. Tribune Online gathered that the suspect had been under surveillance of residents of Ita Kudimo, Abata Suban, Pakata area of Ilorin West local government in the past few days after speculation grew that he possessed a corpse in his building. From what we could gather, the man apparently, reported his son missing to the Police, which of course prompted a search for the child. The headless body of the child was later found in the fathers’ car with one of his foot chopped off. The story was shared by one Taskar Gizago, but it was written in Hausa.
