Kibaki's female companion at Nderitu Gachagua's Burial raises brows

- In March 2009, former president Mwai Kibaki called a press conference to announce that he only had one wife - the late Lucy Kibaki - after rumours that he was a polygamist. There were talks that he was married to current Othaya MP Mary Wambui as well
- Kibaki and Wambui are said to have met in 1974 when she was working in the Kanu office in Othaya; he later employed her as a manager to his Rware Farm in Naromoru
At the late Nderitu Gachagua's funeral, the former president was accompanied by Mary Wambui- his rumoured second wife.
When he was meeting President Uhuru and other dignitaries, Wambui was by his side, hands crossed watching the pleasantries being exchanged.
A photo shared online by Robert Alai raised eye brows on the place of the Othaya MP in Kibaki's life.
Kibaki made it clear in March 2009. He called a press conference at State House to specifically put the issue to rest. He announced that he only had one wife – the late Lucy Kibaki.
This has not stopped the rumours from being spread. That there is more than meets the eye as far as two are concerned.
Wambui was among the first people to condole with the retired president after he lost his wife.
In 2015 Wambui had reffered to Kibaki as her family member at the burial of her sister.
In 1978, the then president Daniel Moi appointed Kibaki as vice president; Kibaki also appointed Wambui as manager of his Rware Farm in Naromoru
According to Daily Nation, when Kibaki won the 2002 presidential elections, Wambui moved to Lavington Estate in Nairobi after buying a house from a former South African diplomat. Both her houses were guarded by police officers.
