How to stop unsolicited text messages – NCC




In a bid to enlighten telecommunications consumers on their rights to quality telecoms services, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has urged subscribers who want to stop unsolicited text messages from entering their phones to text “STOP” to “2442.”
In a statement signed by NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Tony Ojobo, the development is said to be part of the ongoing campaign to educate consumers on their rights to better services.

 According to the statement, the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the commission, Professor Umar Garba Danbatta, had disclosed that “the NCC introduced the Do Not Disturb (DND) facility where consumers are urged to activate the service by dialing “2442” to address the unsolicited calls received by consumers,

 Danbatta was said to have encouraged consumers to access the customer toll free line by dialing 622 to register their complaints if they do not get such complaints addressed by the Network operator.

 He also advised subscribers to avoid purchasing pre-registered Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards because of the dangers they portend to the security of the society.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A Memphis preschool worker has been charged with aggravated child abuse after police say she dragged a 16-month-old boy by one leg and broke the other. Police said the toddler was injured September 20 at the M.E.M. Preschool and Summer Camp on Macon road while he was being watched by Omeika Williams. Investigators said Williams told the child’s parents the boy tripped over a rug and hurt his left leg, but video from the preschool showed her dragging the boy by his right leg causing his left to twist under his body. The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday, May 9, remanded a politician identified as Charles Eni-Umukoro over the murder of his wife, Louisa Eni-Umukoro, who was a director in the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Justice Mary-Anne Aninih ordered the remand of Eni-Umukoro in Kuje Prison, FCT pending the hearing of his bail application. The Inspector General of Police (IGP) in February charged Umukoro with culpable homicide, which is punishable with death under Section 221 of the Penal Code. The defendant however denied the allegation. Amilcar Henriquez shot dead in his Panama home . Police in Panama say national team soccer player Amilcar Henriquez has been shot dead while leaving his home. The press chief for Panama’s National Police says the killing happened Saturday in the country’s Colon province. Authorities say a gunman shot the 33-year-old midfielder several times. Another two people were wounded. The player died at a nearby hospital. President Juan Carlos Varela has condemned the killing on his Twitter account. He is calling for authorities in Colon to find those responsible. Henriquez was part of the Panama team that is trying to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. A Nigerian cleric is demanding for justice on behalf of his son who was allegedly murdered by security operatives while in custody. A Nigerian pastor, Pastor Gabriel Atansuyi, has begged for justice after alleging that the Nigeria Police are trying to cover up the death of his gospel artist son, Ifedolapo. According to Punch, Atansuyi had in a statement on March 8, 2017, accused the police of killing his son while in custody, and attempting to pass it off as suicide.
