TWO CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER AFTER GREEKTOWN BRAWL VIDEO GOES VIRAL
Two men have been charged in the brutal fight captured on video in Downtown Detroit early Sunday.
Six other suspects have been identified.
The fight, which was filmed, posted online and viewed more than 2 million times, shows a chaotic fight that concluded about 1 a.m. Sunday with a seriously injured and apparently unconscious 23-year-old Brandon Putnam being kicked by multiple people as he lay motionless near the curb.
Police said one of the suspects stole something from Putnam's pockets while he was unconscious.
Another victim is seen being swung around in the street by his leg.
The video, which contains graphic language and content, may be viewed here. As of Wednesday, it had been viewed more than 2.2 million times on Facebook.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office charged Stanley Faulk, 23, of Inkster and Keith Harvey, 26, of Detroit, with unarmed robbery, assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm and felony assault.
Additionally, police said Harvey was in possession of cocaine when he was arrested.
"It is alleged that a friend of Putnam's got into a verbal argument with a group of approximately eight men," Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy's Office said in a statement Wednesday. "The argument became physical and another male friend of Putnam's was the assaulted by the group of men.
"When Putnam went to aid his friend, the group of men began to violently beat Putnam while he was on the ground."
Putnam, who was kicked and punched by multiple people after being knocked out near the curb, is still recovering at the hospital.
Detroit Police Chief James Craig expressed his disappointment in fight spectators who filmed the scuffle.
"It's mind-boggling to me that you see a crime in progress and instead of stopping it and assisting and calling police, you're busy trying to get ... World Star video or the most views on Facebook Live," Craig said. " It's ridiculous ... I would rather your moral compass kicks in ...
"This young man could have been killed, and it's fortunate that he's recovering."
The police chief said they have identified the other six suspects and expect to make arrests soon.
