NOTORIOUS ARMED ROBBER GUNNED DOWN IN CALABAR IN BROAD DAYLIGHT

Wanted criminal Stephen Etim Edet was shot dead by men of the Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Cross River State Police Command on wednesday.

 The deceased was a member of a notorious armed robbery gang that has been terrorizing the city for years and escaped with his men following a foiled robbery attack at a housing estate.

 Stephen was said to have been trailed and chased by the SARS patrol team from Bayside, Marina where he had crossed the Atakpa gully control site into the Police Barracks at Moore road and hid in someone's apartment after threatening the occupants. 
"When SARS team appeared on the scene, they combed the place and brought him out" said an eyewitness.

 "When they brought him out,people gathered and the leader of the SARS team shouted "waste that idiot, kill him" he instructed his boys.

 One of the men shot him in the buttocks with the bullet penetrating to his penis region which was shattered.

 "He kept struggling for about 30 minutes before he died and another Police team came and took his body away" the eyewitness added.

Governor  Yahaya Bello of Kogi state has appealed to members of the state university's academic staff union to call off their strike.(Which would be a big mistake if they comply) Bello, who visited the University at Ayingba on Tuesday, pledged to pay all the salary arrears of lecturers and non-academic staff of the institution this month. He said the payment would cover those on contract and study leave, as well as those employed in 2015. Nigerian security forces say they have foiled a plot by ISIS-linked Boko Haram militants to bomb the British High Commission and US Embassy in the capital Abuja. The Department of State Services announced that it had arrested five suspects who were planning attacks. A DSS official said a suspected Boko Haram member who was arrested on March 22, in north-eastern Yobe state, confessed details of the plot. 30 NEW ILLEGAL REFINERIES FOUND IN RIVERS STATE

Victor Choji, the Executive Officer of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Pathfinder, Port Harcourt, said this during the destruction of one of the illegal refineries on Thursday. He said all the refineries were discovered in Asari Toru Local Government area of Rivers, with 40 huge metallic storage tanks . The News Agency of Nigeria reports that some of the storage tanks were filled with petroleum products suspected to be diesel and crude oil. Choji noted that the discovery was in continuation of the current mop-up of illegal refineries and illicit bunkering of petroleum products by crude oil thieves.
