MAN GETS PAID RANSOME FOR OWN FATHER'S KIDNAP

An unidentified man and his accomplices were arrested on Wednesday by the Oyo state police command for allegedly being a part of his father's kidnap.

According to online sources, it was gathered that the suspect and his gang received the sum of N1 million from the ransom collected.

The state's commissioner of police, Abiodun Adekunle Odude revealed that the kidnap took place at Igboora in Ibarapa area of the state, around 6pm, May 17.

"The suspect said he got a share of less than N1 million in the ransom collected although he confessed that his father never offended him," he added.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said it had so far, through painstaking investigations by its operatives, traced N47.2bn and $487.5m in cash and properties to a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke. These, the anti-graft agency said, were apart from "boxes of gold, silver and diamond jewellery, worth several million British pounds sterling," discovered during a search of Diezani's palatial residences in Abuja. The EFCC said it discovered several of Diezani's landed properties scattered all over Lagos and other parts of the country in the course of its investigations, adding that it was doubtful if the former minister declared her true assets as required of public officials. Eight persons alleged to be involved in a gang clash that led to the destruction of property in Idi-Oro, Mushin – Lagos have been arrested,the Lagos Police Command says. The command Spokesman, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, confirmed the arrest to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday. Famous-Cole said that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, had also deployed more police personnel to ensure peace in the area. He said the suspects, who were arrested in Idi Oro had machetes and axes in their possession “Normalcy has returned to the area and there is heavy police presence there. “The public should go about their business. There is a free- flow of traffic in the area now,” Famous-Cole said. The police had to deploy men of the Rapid Response Squad to bring the situation under control.
