PRESIDENT ROBERT MUGABE'S OFFER TURNED DOWN BY LATE MUSICIAN'S FAMILY

Liberation war hero and musician Cde Dickson Chingaira known as "Cde Chinx" who died last Friday will be buried today at Glen Forest cemetery in Harare, as the family rejects President Robert Mugabe's offer to make him a liberation war hero.

Cde Chinx who succumbed to cancer a week ago was 61.
However, family spokesperson Mr Dick Chingaira (Junior), yesterday said the decision to bury the musician at Glen Forest cemetery was in consultation with Government.

 "After consultations with the State, we decided to bury him at Glen Forest and we are on the same page with the State," he said.

Cde Chinx joined the liberation struggle in Mozambique in 1975, where he led the Zanla Choir.

Music played a crucial role in the fight against the brutal Rhodesian regime led by Ian Douglas Smith as it mobilised people on the cause to prosecute the war.

It inspired guerillas and the masses into successfully waging a war against the Rhodesians. Through music, Cde Chinx protested the brutality of the Rhodesian regime while motivating the oppressed blacks to take arms and fight the injustice.

Even after independence, Cde Chinx actively participated in the decolonisation of Zimbabwe during the Third Chimurenga (Hondo Yeminda) when Government embarked on the land reform programme.

Witnesses described seeing a man walk towards an ice cream stand in the square and start attacking. A man with a knife has killed two people and injured at least six in a stabbing rampage in a market square in the Finnish city of Turku, police said. The government of the United Kingdom has said it stands with Nigeria in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents. Breaking: James Ibori leaves DSS custody after 'meeting' with DG The former governor of Delta state returned to the country on Saturday, February 4, after serving a 13 year jail term for fraud in the UK. Ibori was picked up by DSS operatives and then taken to the head office of the DSS for what was described as a briefing. 300 LEVEL VARSITY STUDENT SODOMIZES 10 YEAR OLD GIRL TO DEATH

A 300 Level student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana has reportedly raped a ten-year-old girl to death. The student was said to have anally raped the girl for over three years, damaging her anus and feeding her with a cocktail of painkillers which caused her kidneys to fail, killing her. Reports from Ghanaian online news media said the young man was arrested on Tuesday after the girl was taken to the hospital following her complaints of pains in her anus. Medical tests at the hospital showed she had been sodomised, and revealed damages to her intestines and kidney. The young man is reported to have given the 10-year-old girl eight tablets of paracetamol to kill the pains anytime he has sexual intercourse with her through the anus. He is also reported to have warned the girl not to reveal his sexual encounters with her to anyone or else she will die.

FORMER BBC STUDIO CORDONED OFF AFTER MAN'S BODY WAS DISCOVERED

A man’s body has been discovered on the former BBC studios site in Manchester city centre. The body was found this morning at the building site on Oxford Road, which is currently being transformed into student flats. Greater Manchester Police have been called to the scene and the area has been taped off. Forensics officers have also been seen combing the area. Police are working to establish the circumstances behind the man’s death. The victim is believed to have been discovered by building site staff on Monday morning. It is thought he gained access to the building site over the weekend.
