KOGI WORKERS GIVE GOVT 7 DAYS ULTIMATUM OVER HALF SALARY POLICY

LOKOJA—Organised labour in Kogi State has given the state government a seven-day ultimatum over its decision to pay 50 percent salary to workers and 40 percent to local government staff across the state.

The workers, after a meeting presided over by the state Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Onuh Edoka, and his Trade Union Congress, TUC, counterpart, Ranti Ojo, restated their resolve to reject the half salary policy of government.

Edoka said: "If the N2.6 billion being quoted now by government as July wage bill is sacrosanct, and if the monthly allocation that accrued to the state from the federation account without the IGR shared in the month of August stands at N2.6 billion as presented to organised labour, we wish to ask why this percentage of salary?"

72-year-old Clarence White who got fed up of his wife complaining about his inability to satisfy her sexually or financially ended up pulling the trigger on her. The man is said to have grabbed a 22-caliber handgun and shot his much-younger wife in the face at their Bronx home on Thursday morning. A disgruntled husband killed his wife during their cruise-ship vacation because "she would not stop laughing at me," according to newly filed court papers. Kenneth Manzanares attacked his wife, Kristy, inside their cabin aboard the Emerald Princess cruise ship Tuesday night, according to an affidavit filed Wednesday in Alaska federal court. NIGERIAN ARMY AND POLICE CLASH BLOODY,4 DIE

A bloody clash between the army and police in Nigeria's restive northeastern Yobe state on Wednesday left one soldier and three police dead, a security source told AFP.  The police confirmed the fracas in the state capital of Damaturu, but did not say if there were casualties.  "The Nigeria police force is abreast of the unfortunate incident that occurred in the early hours of today 12th April, 2017 in Damaturu between the personnel of the force and that of the Nigerian army," police spokesman Jimoh Moshood said in a statement.  He said an investigation had been launched to determine "the causes of the incident and deal with the situation appropriately to prevent such occurrence in the future".  The army authorities were not immediately available for comment.
