UNBELIEVABLE RATE OF CRIME RECORDED IN JUST ONE NIGHT AT MANCHESTER CITY CENTRE

An aggressive busker, two 14-year-old girls assaulted in Piccadilly Gardens, and an allegation of homophobic hate crime are just a few of the many incidents city centre officers faced on Friday night.

Assault, theft, and drugs mis-use were all part of the huge amount of calls officers received last night.

As part of an all-night Tweetathon which involved GMP sharing every single call that came from 9pm until 6am - it showed the extent of what police tackle across Manchester.

In the space of nine hours there were 13 incidents of assault and nine incidents of theft.
There were also three reported incidents involving drugs.

Just after 9.30pm a report was made that two 14-year-old girls were assaulted in
Piccadilly Gardens .
Officers are investigating the incident and making 'assessments of any vulnerability'.

At 11.15pm there was a call to a 'loud and aggressive busker' on Canal Street. Police said a resident had tried to reason with the busker, but they apparently abused the resident and turned the volume up louder.

Manchester City Council staff attended, as they have a voluntary code of conduct for buskers and powers to deal with noise nuisance.

GMP's City Centre Inspector Phil Spurgeon said: "Social media is a really useful way of us engaging with different communities, and we do an occasional Tweetathon to highlight the range and complexity of incidents we deal with on a typical night in the city centre.

"However, we should emphasise, that we highlighted the issues experienced by a tiny minority; what I call the 3 V's – victims, villains and the vulnerable.
"The vast majority of those in the city centre last night had a safe and enjoyable night."

NWAS were unable to attend immediately because of demand elsewhere, so the female was taken to hospital by police officers.
