Why Obasanjo forcefully retired me from police – Oba Akiolu

The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, has claimed that former president Olusegun Obasanjo forcefully retired him from the Nigerian Police Force IN 2002, so the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could win the 2003 elections in Lagos State.
He claimed that Atiku Abubakar and Lawal Daura convinced Obasanjo to remove him, because the Police Service Commission (PSC) “is a toothless bull-dog.”
He said in part: “Atiku, Daura and others sat down and advised President Obasanjo that if he wanted to win Lagos in 2003, I should be removed. It was written on paper.”
The monarch said Obasanjo “did not know anything about it. He had to send for the Inspector-General of Police (IG) because the then Chief of Staff challenged the plan to retire me.
“For someone to sit at the PSC and determine who retires from the police is unfair. This is not how to run a very efficient and effective police force.”

PRESIDENT CANCELS FEDERAL EXECUTIVE MEETING TO RECEIVE PROBE REPORT ON SECRETARY TO THE GOVERNMENT OF THE FEDERATION

The meeting of the Federal Executive Council that holds every Wednesday did not hold yesterday. Yesterday would have afforded President Muhammadu Buhari who returned to the country on Saturday the opportunity of presiding over the council meeting for the first time in over three months. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, disclosed in a statement that the meeting would not hold. Adesina did not however disclose the reason behind the decision to cancel the meeting. ANOTHER 155 NIGERIANS RETURN FROM LIBYA

Two weeks after 171 Nigerians voluntarily returned home from Libya, 155 others followed suit on Thursday aboard a chartered Nouvel Air aircraft with registration number TS-1NB. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the aircraft landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos at about 6.00 p.m. Like the initial group which returned on March 7 after being stranded in Libya while enroute Europe, the returnees were brought back by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the Nigerian Embassy in Libya. They were received at the Hajj Camp area of the airport by officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), the National Agency for the Protection of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the Police. MAN ARRESTED FOR VANDALIZING LINCOLN MEMORIAL WITH A PENNY

A man was arrested Monday after police say he vandalized the Lincoln Memorial . A U. S. Park Police officer observed the man about 1 p. m . using a penny to scrawl the letters "HYPT MAEK" on the fifth pillar on the north side of the memorial , authorities said. The man , identified as 21 - year - old Nurtilek Bakirov , of Kyrgyzstan, was arrested and charged with malicious destruction of property. Sgt . Anna Rose , a Park Police spokeswoman, said during a news conference Tuesday that Bakirov was a student in the Washington area . Bakirov ' s attorney didn' t return a request for comment.
