LAGOS POLICE VOWS TO STOP PROTEST

The Lagos State Police Commissioner Fatai Owoseni has vowed to stop Tuface's planned protest against the Federal Government slated for February 5 in the state.
Tuface Idibia had announced a nationwide protest in order to draw the attention of the government to the sufferings of Nigerians under this administration.
But Lagos COMPOL Owoseni who had earlier stated that there was no official request from the protesters notifying security agencies of their plan said on Wednesday that intelligence report indicated that criminals might hijack the process and that the police wasn’t ready for that kind of demonstration and as such would not allow it to hold.
“We know that Tuface does not have the capacity to contain such a crowd and we will not fold our hands and watch while things go out of hand.
“The Civil Society had said that they do not need police permission to carry out any peaceful protest but they should also be aware that there might be those who share an opposing view. This set of persons may want to disrupt the peaceful demonstration and would want to attack demonstrators,hence we advise individuals or group of persons who may wish to embark on civil demonstration to inform the police so that adequate security arrangement would be provided.”

IPOB STANDS PROSCRIBED A TERRORIST GROUP -FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

The Federal Government of Nigeria, Tuesday, threw its weight on the proscription of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and the categorisation of IPOB as a terrorist organisation by both the south-east governors and the Nigerian army, respectively, saying the activities of the group are similar to those of other terrorist groups. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed disclosed this on Tuesday when he appeared on a live TV programme "Good Morning Nigeria" on the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA). After weeks of intensive manhunt, the Lagos state police command has arrested one Ismaila Adeyemi, 49, the suspected mastermind and killer of Hector Jobateh (the 2007 winner of Gulder Ultimate search) who was traced and shot dead at his residence at New Oko-Oba in Agege, Lagos State. The suspect who was arrested at gas line Ominiyi in Ijoko area of Ogun state, confessed to the crime and other numerous crimes, while other members of his gang have been arrested.  People fleeing from violence in Central African Republic . Thousands of people have fled their homes as violence continues to engulf the south-eastern city of Bangassou in the Central African Republic (CAR), the UN on said Monday. More than 3,000 people had fled within hours of violence erupting late Friday when members of the mainly-Christian anti-Balaka militia attacked civilians and a UN field office. UN peacekeepers exchanged fire with anti-Balaka Monday, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said. Dujarric did not comment on reports that militiamen had agreed to leave the city on condition that UN troops stop firing at them. One thousand people are confined in a mosque compound, and around 1500 have sought refuge in a cathedral.
