It has been confirmed by the Senate that acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu will defend the agency’s budget amid corruption allegations against him,this was stated by Chairman, Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes, Senator Chukwuka Utazi who said the committee would maintain the status quo by inviting Magu to defend the 2017 budget estimate of the EFCC as acting chairman of the agency.
“We are going to maintain the status quo, we are going to invite everyone,we are going to invite the acting Chairman of EFCC,Magu; he is still the acting Chairman of EFCC.
“Until he is removed,we will invite him for the budget defence and at the moment,he has not been removed.
“A letter was written to the Senate by President Buhari on Magu,a decision has not been taken on him and it was not referred to any committee or my committee for further actions,the letter was not even discussed and no decision was taken on it,it is not administrative,there must be resolution or reference to any committee in the Senate before actions are carried out.We will invite him for budget defence,”Vanguard quoted Utazi as saying.

Heavily armed policemen on Tuesday in Dutse, Jigawa State capital, fired teargas canisters at a crowd that gathered at the Chief Magistrate Court Two for the arraignment of former governor Sule Lamido, who is being tried for making inciting remarks. Counsel for the Jigawa State Government, Ikenna Ekpunobi, insisted that Lamido should not be granted bail until investigation was completed. Emphasising that Lamido was charged with disturbing public peace and inciting public disturbance, Ekpunobi argued that the allegations were contrary to the provisions of the Criminal Code of Jigawa State. However, Lamido’s counsel, Felix Osimerah, quoting Section 36, sub-section 5 of the 1999 Constitution, argued that Lamido should be presumed innocent even as he stressed that the offences were bailable. A middle aged man has been arrested in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital for being in possession of human parts. Tribune Online gathered that the suspect had been under surveillance of residents of Ita Kudimo, Abata Suban, Pakata area of Ilorin West local government in the past few days after speculation grew that he possessed a corpse in his building. It was also gathered that the neighbours of the suspect swooped on his residence at about noon on Sunday and the suspect was allegedly caught with human parts. He was later dragged to Adewole Police station in the Ilorin metropolis amidst shouting and rain of curses by the crowd of people. Gunmen suspected to be militants on Thursday morning invaded Lagos State Model College, Igbo Nla, Epe, Lagos, abducting the principals and some students. The kidnappers were said to have stormed the school in the early hours when the students were at the morning assembly. The gunmen abducted the principal of the junior secondary school, Mr. Oyesola and Mr. Akirinmade who is the Principal of the senior secondary school. They also abducted some of the students. Presenting the case to the House of Representatives, the member representing Epe Constituency, Wale Raji, appealed to the House to call on the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State to treat the case with utmost urgency. Sule Lamido, the former governor of Jigawa state, has attributed his arrest and perceived persecution to his desire to run for president in 2019. This was disclosed by his chief press secretary, Umar Kyari, in a chat with The Vanguard on Monday. Dhaka has a population in excess of 14 million and has recently been hit by major floods caused by heavy rains and an insufficient storm drainage system.
