Some armed hoodlums who operate in Asaba and its environs in Delta State yesterday in the early hours attacked corps members in their private residence behind Mao Mau Hostels, off Ibori Gold Course road, Awai Asaba Quarters.
The hoodlums allegedly raped two of the corps members before carting away their valuables including cash of N12, 000.
A neighbour in the compound, Kate Okafor said the armed hoodlums jumped into the premises through the fence and made straight to the corps’ members’ apartment who unsuspectingly were operating their generating set “I beta pass my neighbour” during the period to watch a home movie.
It was gathered that the hoodlum intercepted the free flow of the generator’s power supply and the corps members in their room were and wanted to know what were responsible; unfortunately, one of them, Adachukwu Prosper (surname withheld) who opened the door was at gun point pushed to the ground and in a “Commando like” was ordered into the room where the ransacked their property and allegedly pummeled them.
The two victims, Adachukwu Prosper and Chioma (surname withheld) are graduates of Abia State Polytechnic, posted to Asaba for their youth service.
While the hoodlums’ operation lasted, other occupants of the compound including three other corps members were allegedly subjected to facing the ground at gun point and were also ordered to surrender their belongings, for them, the hoodlums numbering six, took to their heels when they smelt a rat of security agents closing on them.
One of the occupants, Simon (surname withheld) told our reporter that he escaped and invited the police through his GSM phone, adding that it was the first ever attack on them in the compound since he moved to the house over a year ago.
Also, the victims, (Adachukwu and Chioma) said: “we were raped by the hoodlums after they gained entrance to our room when I tried to know what was wrong with our generating set, took away our phones, TV Plasma, and Cash of N12, 000”.
