JAPAN ;REPORTER DIES AFTER 159 HOURS OF OVERTIME

By

Japanese workers famously put in long hours, leading, in extreme cases, to karoshi, or death from overwork. Japanese media outfit, NHK, has apologized to the parents of deceased Japanese reporter, Miwa Sado, who died of heart failure after reportedly working for 159 hours of overtime in a month. Sado, who had been covering political news in Tokyo was found dead in her bed in July 2013, reportedly clutching her mobile phone. "The chairman met the parents at their home in the morning and apologised," an NHK spokesman told AFP. A government inquest a year after her death ruled that it was linked to excessive overtime. She had taken two days off in the month before she died. NHK eventually made the case public four years later, bowing to pressure from Sado's parents to take action to prevent a recurrence. 'Karoshi' The case has again highlighted the Japanese problem of "karoshi" — meaning death from overwork — and is an embarrassing revela...

UNRELIABLE NIGERIAN GOVT ; URGENT ATTENTION TO ADDRESS THE SITUATION OF NIGERIAN PRISONERS IN GHANA AND IN DIASPORA

By

I usually do not write, talk or contribute to whatever it is that has to do with prisoners generally. Why because, even though I am not perfect,I do not have a criminal record and I know how very careful I mind myself, the law and people in general to avoid even been invited as witness in any case, talk more of been a plaintiff or accused. But the post below has touched and drawn my attention to the suffering of the people involved even though I do not know them and in as much as I can not authenticate the post or source,I know and believe there are lots of Nigerians and other nationals in this very situation around Africa and the world. My concentration here is on Nigerians,in as much as I hardly feel for criminals (not saying all prisoners are guilty),we have a country very terrible, from our heartless shadow boxing pretender of a president Buhari to almost all of our senators and representatives nation wide, who abandon and ignore their very duties to serve Nigerians and instead concentra...

It was one of the most frightening moments of her life. A friend overdosed after taking the powerful painkiller fentanyl, started convulsing on the floor and stopped breathing. Filled with fear, Jessica sprinted to her car outside and seized a pre-filled syringe kept for emergencies. She administered the unconscious woman with an overdose antidote and waited for the ambulance to arrive. "You'll be surprised how quickly someone turns cold," the former drug dealer told Lateline. "They turn purple, they're not breathing, and it's just like seeing a dead body on the floor." 'That's my breakfast' Inside the country towns hooked on prescription drugs. She sold heroin for a decade but refused to sell fentanyl after seeing 15 people overdose. "It's a killer drug," she said. "When I had no heroin, people would ask me if I had fentanyl or if I could get fentanyl. "You can go buy $100 or $200 worth of fentanyl and be smashed. To ...

NIGERIA'S POPULATION OUTGROWING NATION'S ECONOMY

By
Image
The managing director of the International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde, has stated that the economy of some West African nations, including Nigeria, is not growing at the same rate as its population. She made this statement on Thursday while addressing the press at the ongoing International Monetary Fund annual meetings holding in Washington. She said, "Sub Saharan Africa (which Nigeria is part of one) is one region of the world where growth is way suboptimal. Those countries 2.5 percent. That is too low for the demographic expansion of the region. "There are different countries if we are to look Rwanda it is a different situation from that of Togo and Ghana is going to be different from Mozambique and so on. "It is still to low for the demographic growth. For that region to take advantage of the demographic dividend of all the young people who are coming up and trying to have access to the economy and have a job, it is too low." Lagarde said the organisation w...

KUSHNER FAILED TO DISCLOSE OUTREACH FROM PUTIN ALLY TO TRUMP CAMPAIGN

By
Image
WASHINGTON — President Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner, failed to disclose what lawmakers called a "Russian backdoor overture and dinner invite" involving a banker who has been accused of links to Russian organized crime, three sources familiar with the matter have said.   An email chain described Aleksander Torshin, a former senator and deputy head of Russia's central bank who is close to Russian President Vladimir Putin, as wanting Trump to attend an event on the side lines of a National Rifle Association convention in Louisville, Kentucky, in May 2016, the sources said. The email also suggests Torshin was seeking to meet with a high-level Trump campaign official during the convention, and that he may have had a message for Trump from Putin, the sources said.   Kushner rebuffed the request after receiving a lengthy email exchange about it between a West Virginia man and Trump campaign ai...
