20 YEAR OLD BOY IN THE DOCK FOR BRUTALIZING AND STABBING ANOTHER

A 20-year-old man, Olayinka Bamgboye, was arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrate’s’ Court on Wednesday for allegedly stabbing one Waheed Alagbede.

 Bamgboye, who resides at No.5, Fafunmi Street, Ajasa, Lagos, is facing a count charge of assault.The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

 The Prosecutor, Sgt. Yomi Egunjobi, told court that the accused committed the offence on April 28.

 Egunjobi said the accused stabbed Alagbede with a knife after giving him punches and inflicting serious injuries on him.

 The prosecutor said that the accused assaulted Alagbede because he refused to apologize when he flashed touch light in his face.

 He said that the offence contravened Section 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.Section 172 prescribes three-year jail term for assault.

 The Magistrate, Mrs M.O. Osibanjo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N20, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

 Osibanjo said that one of the sureties must be gainfully employed and should show evidence of a two-year tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

 The court adjourned the case until June 5.

Two armed robbers were reportedly shot dead in a gun battle with the Kano State Police command and gang of robbers who shot a Police Patrol vehicle along Kano/Zaria road at a point close to Garun Mallam Village arrested. No fewer than 700 suspected cultists and 38 suspected armed robbers were arrested in different parts of Anambra in the last three weeks, Garba Umar, the state commissioner of police, has said. Umar told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday, July 23 in Awka that the arrests were clear signal that Anambra was no longer a safe haven for criminals. The Nigerian Senate has passed a bill that compels hospitals across the country to treat gunshot victims without demanding police report or monetary deposit. The bill titled, "Compulsory Treatment and Care of Victims of Gunshots" was passed during the upper legislative chamber's Tuesday's plenary session. The bill mandates security agents to assist individuals with gunshot wounds and ensure that they are taken to the nearest hospital for immediate treatment.
