RAPE ;14 YEAR OLD ARRESTED FOR DEFILING NEIGHBOURS 7 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN THE TOILET

A 14-year-old secondary school student is facing trial at an Ikeja chief magistrate’s court over the defilement of his neighbour’s seven-year-old daughter. 

The accused, who resides with his parents in Bariga, Lagos, according to police prosecutor, Raphael Donny, broke into the toilet where the girl was easing herself, and defiled her. He said the accused committed the offence in December 2016, noting “it was the cry of the girl that alerted the mother, who immediately rushed to the scene. 

“When the mother saw blood stains on the child’s clothes, she shouted and efforts to apprehend the boy were unsuccessful as he ran away from the house. The case was reported at the police station, while the boy was later sighted in Agege and arrested by the police.” The accused, however, denied the charge. 

Chief Magistrate D. Abegunde admitted the accused to N300,000 bail with two sureties in like sum. Abegunde, however, ordered the accused remanded in the Boys Correctional Centre, Oregun, Ikeja, until when the bail condition is met. 

Before adjourning the case till June 5, she directed that the case file be duplicated and a copy sent to the state’s Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP, for advice.

Heavily armed policemen on Tuesday in Dutse, Jigawa State capital, fired teargas canisters at a crowd that gathered at the Chief Magistrate Court Two for the arraignment of former governor Sule Lamido, who is being tried for making inciting remarks. A middle aged man has been arrested in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital for being in possession of human parts. Tribune Online gathered that the suspect had been under surveillance of residents of Ita Kudimo, Abata Suban, Pakata area of Ilorin West local government in the past few days after speculation grew that he possessed a corpse in his building. It was also gathered that the neighbours of the suspect swooped on his residence at about noon on Sunday and the suspect was allegedly caught with human parts. Gunmen suspected to be militants on Thursday morning invaded Lagos State Model College, Igbo Nla, Epe, Lagos, abducting the principals and some students. The kidnappers were said to have stormed the school in the early hours when the students were at the morning assembly. Sule Lamido, the former governor of Jigawa state, has attributed his arrest and perceived persecution to his desire to run for president in 2019. This was disclosed by his chief press secretary, Umar Kyari, in a chat with The Vanguard on Monday.
