JAPAN ;REPORTER DIES AFTER 159 HOURS OF OVERTIME

By

Japanese workers famously put in long hours, leading, in extreme cases, to karoshi, or death from overwork. Japanese media outfit, NHK, has apologized to the parents of deceased Japanese reporter, Miwa Sado, who died of heart failure after reportedly working for 159 hours of overtime in a month. Sado, who had been covering political news in Tokyo was found dead in her bed in July 2013, reportedly clutching her mobile phone. "The chairman met the parents at their home in the morning and apologised," an NHK spokesman told AFP. A government inquest a year after her death ruled that it was linked to excessive overtime. She had taken two days off in the month before she died. NHK eventually made the case public four years later, bowing to pressure from Sado's parents to take action to prevent a recurrence. 'Karoshi' The case has again highlighted the Japanese problem of "karoshi" — meaning death from overwork — and is an embarrassing revela...

I usually do not write, talk or contribute to whatever it is that has to do with prisoners generally. Why because, even though I am not perfect,I do not have a criminal record and I know how very careful I mind myself, the law and people in general to avoid even been invited as witness in any case, talk more of been a plaintiff or accused. But the post below has touched and drawn my attention to the suffering of the people involved even though I do not know them and in as much as I can not authenticate the post or source,I know and believe there are lots of Nigerians and other nationals in this very situation around Africa and the world. My concentration here is on Nigerians,in as much as I hardly feel for criminals (not saying all prisoners are guilty),we have a country very terrible, from our heartless shadow boxing pretender of a president Buhari to almost all of our senators and representatives nation wide, who abandon and ignore their very duties to serve Nigerians and instead concentra...

By
Image
The managing director of the International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde, has stated that the economy of some West African nations, including Nigeria, is not growing at the same rate as its population. She made this statement on Thursday while addressing the press at the ongoing International Monetary Fund annual meetings holding in Washington. She said, "Sub Saharan Africa (which Nigeria is part of one) is one region of the world where growth is way suboptimal. Those countries 2.5 percent. That is too low for the demographic expansion of the region. "There are different countries if we are to look Rwanda it is a different situation from that of Togo and Ghana is going to be different from Mozambique and so on. "It is still to low for the demographic growth. For that region to take advantage of the demographic dividend of all the young people who are coming up and trying to have access to the economy and have a job, it is too low." Lagarde said the organisation w...

TRUMP HAS MADE WAR WITH IRAN AND NORTH KOREA MORE LIKELY THAN EVER

By
Image
The U.S. and Iran have both taken defensive measures to prepare for a potential conflict following President Donald Trump's controversial decision Friday to not certify a landmark nuclear treaty between both countries and four other leading powers. Despite recommendations from his security and defense advisors, Trump decertified the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a 2015 deal negotiated by the U.S., Iran, China France, Germany, Russia and the U.K., and designated Iran's elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) a terrorist organization. Trump's remarks, in which he accused Iran of being a "fanatical regime" that sponsors terrorism abroad, had immediate repercussions in the region, with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani quickly condemning the speech during a televised address. "Mr. Trump's remarks on Iran…contained nothing but expletives and a pile of delusional allegations against the Iranian nation," Rouhani said, according to Press ...
