MAN ON TRIAL FOR CUTTING OFF NEIGHBORS NOSE

A 41 year- old man, Uche Odinaka has been arraigned before an Asaba Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for allegedly cutting off his neighbour’s nose.

 The prosecutor, Mrs Ekugbe Biokoro, told the court that the accused committed the offence on the May 7, 2017 at No 5 Obi street, Asaba.

 She said Odinaka assaulted his neighbour, one Uche Ukwuraivwe and used a machete to cut the complainant’s nose during a scuffle.

 Biokoro said that the offence was punishable under Section 355 of Criminal Code,Cap C21 Vol 1 Laws of Delta State of Nigeria 2006.

 The accused, however, pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N120,000 and a surety in like sum.

 The Magistrate, Mrs Okonkwo Akanume, ordered that the surety must be a civil servant residing within the jurisdiction of the court, own a landed property in Asaba and should deposit two passport photographs with the court.

 Akanume adjourned the case till May 30, for definite hearing.

EX GOVERNOR SULE LAMIDO REMANDED IN PRISON CUSTODY AMIDST PROTESTS

Heavily armed policemen on Tuesday in Dutse, Jigawa State capital, fired teargas canisters at a crowd that gathered at the Chief Magistrate Court Two for the arraignment of former governor Sule Lamido, who is being tried for making inciting remarks. Counsel for the Jigawa State Government, Ikenna Ekpunobi, insisted that Lamido should not be granted bail until investigation was completed. Emphasising that Lamido was charged with disturbing public peace and inciting public disturbance, Ekpunobi argued that the allegations were contrary to the provisions of the Criminal Code of Jigawa State. However, Lamido’s counsel, Felix Osimerah, quoting Section 36, sub-section 5 of the 1999 Constitution, argued that Lamido should be presumed innocent even as he stressed that the offences were bailable. A middle aged man has been arrested in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital for being in possession of human parts. Tribune Online gathered that the suspect had been under surveillance of residents of Ita Kudimo, Abata Suban, Pakata area of Ilorin West local government in the past few days after speculation grew that he possessed a corpse in his building. It was also gathered that the neighbours of the suspect swooped on his residence at about noon on Sunday and the suspect was allegedly caught with human parts. He was later dragged to Adewole Police station in the Ilorin metropolis amidst shouting and rain of curses by the crowd of people. BREAKING NEWS;GUNMEN ABDUCT SCHOOL PRINCIPALS AND STUDENT

Gunmen suspected to be militants on Thursday morning invaded Lagos State Model College, Igbo Nla, Epe, Lagos, abducting the principals and some students. The kidnappers were said to have stormed the school in the early hours when the students were at the morning assembly. The gunmen abducted the principal of the junior secondary school, Mr. Oyesola and Mr. Akirinmade who is the Principal of the senior secondary school. They also abducted some of the students. Presenting the case to the House of Representatives, the member representing Epe Constituency, Wale Raji, appealed to the House to call on the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State to treat the case with utmost urgency. Sule Lamido, the former governor of Jigawa state, has attributed his arrest and perceived persecution to his desire to run for president in 2019. This was disclosed by his chief press secretary, Umar Kyari, in a chat with The Vanguard on Monday.
