GIANT HORNETS STING 87 YEAR OLD WOMAN TO DEATH

A wheelchair-bound 87-year-old pensioner, Chieko Kikuchi, who was attacked by giant hornets in Japan and stung 150 times, has died.
According to a firefighter,  emergency workers stood by powerless to help her.
A swarm of hornets swooped on Kikuchi as she was on her way back from her care centre in western Japan, accompanied by a helper.
The helper called firefighters but they could not reach the woman immediately as the swarm around her was too thick and they had no protective equipment.
After the ordeal, which lasted around 50 minutes, the woman was rushed to hospital but died the following day, the firefighter said.
"It was an unusual operation for us," he admitted.
The death occurred in mid-September but was only reported on Friday, making headline news on national bulletins.
A forestry agency official said hornets often attack people when their nests are affected.
"To avoid getting stung by hornets, you should keep away from their nests, wear protective jackets and use a wasp killer spray," the agency official said.
Some 20 people die from hornets stings every year in Japan, according to public broadcaster NHK.

        Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos have arrested two Brazilians who together attempted to smuggle over 23kg of cocaine into the country.         Dias Dos Santos Marcia Cristina, 36, was found with 9.4kg of cocaine in her bag and Lima Pereira Erick Diego, 20, had 14.465kg of cocaine in his bag. The duo, who traveled from São Paulo, claimed to be tourists.        Mitchell Ofoyeju, spokesperson for NDLEA, said in a statement that the drugs were carefully hidden in food cans inside their luggage. The Lagos State police command has arrested two Uber drivers, Fosta Rufus, 30, and Franklin Jogbodo, who specialize in robbing women of their valuables at gunpoint in Lagos. Some school children have suffered irreparable harm after a lorry ploughed straight into them on the road. Authorities on Monday confirmed that 300 people died after twin bomb explosions in Mogadishu, as locals packed hospitals in search of friends and relatives caught up in Somalia's deadliest attack in a decade.
