Southern Kaduna: IGP deploys Police Special Forces February 23, 2017 The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim K. Idris, has ordered the deployment of Police Special Forces to put an end to the renewed wave of clashes in some communities in Southern Kaduna. The Special Forces have a mandate to ensure that they flush out perpetrators of the violence wherever they are and restore peace in the area within the shortest possible time. Kidnappers beat lecturer to death after collecting N1.1m ransom  23rd Feb 2017; Two men, Patrick Koyi and Chituru Ferdinand, have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping a lecturer,Emmanuel Chinasa Obi,working with the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) in September 2016. The suspects also beat the victim to death after collecting N1.1 ransom. Father of 9 throws child's corpse into canal Feb 23rd 2017; A man, Adekunle Adewusi, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly disposing of his child’s remains in a canal. Adewusi, a father of nine, who resided at 25, Folorunsho Kuku Street, Opebi, Ikeja, committed the offence on February 7 at about 10:00p.m. The corpse of the four-year-old girl was found inside a canal close to the residence of the accused. “The accused in his statement claimed that the deceased was pushed on a sharp object by her playmates and because the wound was not properly treated, it developed into a big issue. “Instead of taking the child to the hospital, he decided to do a home remedy which eventually led to her death. “And instead of depositing the remains at the mortuary, the accused dumped her body in a canal close to his residence. “The deceased was the sixth child of the accused, with eight other siblings,” she said. Update on Kim Jong-Nam's murder Feb 23rd 2017; Malaysia has asked North Korea to assist in searching for a senior embassy official wanted in connection with the killing of Kim Jong-Nam. Mr Kim, the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, died last week at Kuala Lumpur airport. Confirming details of the killing, the police said two women approached him and wiped a toxin on his face. There is widespread suspicion that North Korea was behind the attack, which its envoy in Malaysia has angrily denied. Authorities are still waiting for the results of the post-mortem examination of Mr Kim’s body, and are seeking his family members to provide a DNA sample. 3 killed in bank robbery in Owerri in Imo state, Feb 23rd 2017; No fewer than three people have been killed and several others wounded including a police officer, after unknown gunmen suspected to be armed robbers attacked a Zenith bank branch in Owerri, the Imo state capital. Eye witness accounts say the armed robbers, numbering about 12, invaded the bank at about 2:00 pm on Wednesday and shot sporadically into the air to scare customers away after over-powering the security operatives on duty. The men were also said to have carted away a yet to be disclosed amount of money.
