Youths and traders protest customs invasion of rice warehouse

Some youths and traders have brought activities and vehicular movement on the ever busy Lagos-Abeokuta expressway to a halt, following a protest over alleged invasion of the rice market by men of the Nigerian Customs Service.The protest which was said to have lasted for hours, took the intervention of the Sango Ota Police Area Commander, Adegoke Fayoade, to restore normalcy to the area.

Meanwhile, the Customs Public Relations Officer, Federal Operation Unit, Jerry Attah, dismissed the claims of market invasion, explaining that men of the command on surveillance noticed smugglers were moving rice in bulk on motorcycles from a canoe to a store in the area.

He added that the command only evacuated some of the alleged smuggled rice at the warehouse in the early hours of Wednesday.The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said normal activities have been restored to the area.

WHISTLE BLOWER ASSISTS NAFDAC UNCOVER N200 MILLION FAKE PRODUCTS

The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has uncovered fake and unregistered products valued at over N200 million. The products, confiscated through a whistle-blower’s report, were stocked in a building at 11, Omotosho Crescent, off Ewedana Street, Toll Gate, Ota in Ogun State.  The building also served as production outlet for bitters with fake NAFDAC registration numbers. At a briefing in Lagos yesterday, Acting Director-General of NAFDAC, Mrs. Yetunde Oni, explained that the building is a bungalow of five bedrooms, with two residential rooms, while the other three, the parlour and the kitchen were used for production of unregistered, deceptive and counterfeit products. BREAKING: Rivers state commissioner of police is dead Mr Odesanya was said to have died this morning Tuesday, January 31 Rivers state commissioner of police Francis Bolaji Odesanya died outside Nigeria's shores. The Rivers State Police Commissioner, Mr. Francis Bolaji Odesanya has died in an Indian hospital after an assumed kidney failure. He was the 37th Rivers State Commissioner of Police, having succeeded Mr. Foluso Adebanjo on July 12, 2016. Odesanya joined the force on February 2, 1986, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and rose through the ranks to his current position of Commissioner of Police.

Happy grooms Jahed Choudhury, 24, and Sean Rogan, 19, tied the knot wearing traditional golden Sherwanis in a civil ceremony at Walsall registry office. The pair, who've been together for two years, first met when Choudhury was crying on a bench in Darlaston. He told Express and Star: 'I'd not long overdosed and I was crying on a bench and Sean came over and asked if I was okay.Adding that Sean gave him hope at his lowest point and has stood by him ever since.
