Youths and traders protest customs invasion of rice warehouse

Some youths and traders have brought activities and vehicular movement on the ever busy Lagos-Abeokuta expressway to a halt, following a protest over alleged invasion of the rice market by men of the Nigerian Customs Service.The protest which was said to have lasted for hours, took the intervention of the Sango Ota Police Area Commander, Adegoke Fayoade, to restore normalcy to the area.

Meanwhile, the Customs Public Relations Officer, Federal Operation Unit, Jerry Attah, dismissed the claims of market invasion, explaining that men of the command on surveillance noticed smugglers were moving rice in bulk on motorcycles from a canoe to a store in the area.

He added that the command only evacuated some of the alleged smuggled rice at the warehouse in the early hours of Wednesday.The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said normal activities have been restored to the area.

CULTISM ; 10 KILLED AS RIVAL CULT GROUPS CLASH

There was pandemonium in some part of Akure, the Ondo State capital   on Monday   night following the killing of no fewer than ten people by suspected cult members . LEADERSHIP investigation revealed that no fewer than ten suspected cultists had been murdered in the last three days when rival groups engaged gunfire on themselves. It was also learnt that the rival cult groups, Eiye and Aiye confraternity have been at logger head in the last few days. The killings occurred in some streets of the state capital such as Obanla, Roadblock, Adebowale junction and the last clash took place  on Monday  night at Nepa area of the ancient town. TERRORIST ATTACK;2 KILLED AS FIVE TERRORISTS SURRENDER

Two persons have been confirmed dead with three others seriously injured following an ambush by suspected Boko Haram terrorists along Damaturu, Biu road Sunday afternoon. A military source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the insurgents had buried IEDs along the highway. It was gathered that the travelers, who took off from Damaturu on their way to Biu, were ambushed some 60 kilometres to their destination. According to the source, the militants opened fire indiscriminately on the travelers and that in an attempt to escape, the IEDs went off killing two persons on the spot. Another report said three people injured from the attack were rushed to the Damaturu specialists' hospital by security forces on patrol along the road.
