Apo six: Court sentences 2 officers to death, discharges 3

Justice Ishaq Bello of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has delivered judgment in the alleged extra judicial killing of six spare parts traders at Apo area of Abuja by six police officers in 2005.

Delivering his judgement, Justice Bello sentenced two of the defendants to death and discharged the other three for lack of sufficient evidence since one of them has been at large.

The officers are Danjuma Ibrahim, Othman Abdulsalami (now at large), Nicholas Zakaria, Ezekiel Acheneje, Baba Emmanuel and Sadiq Salami.

The Attorney General of the Federation in 2005 charged the six police officers to court for the alleged crime.

They were arraigned on a nine count charge of conspiracy and culpable homicide, which contravened the provisions of Sections 97 and 221 (a) of the Penal Code Law.
The traders allegedly killed by the officers: are Ifeanyi Ozor,Chinedu Meniru, Isaac Ekene, Paulinus Ogbonna, Anthony Nwodike and Augustina Arebun.
