CONCERNED NIGERIANS,OURMUMUDONDO MEMBERS VISIT PARENTS OF LATE 10 YEAR OLD BOY KILLED AT OWERRI MARKET

Members of pro-democracy groups, Concerned Nigerians and OurMumuDonDo Movement, on Saturday, visited the family of Somtochukwu Ibeanusi, the 10-year old boy shot dead by security agents during the forceful eviction of traders from the demolition scene of Ekwe Uku Market, Owerri. The eviction and demotion were ordered by Mr. Rochas Okorocha, the governor of Imo State.

In a statement issued after the visit, members of the two groups said Somtochukwu's killing is a symptom of how the country's political leaders use state apparatus and resources to oppress the poor, relieve them of their belongings and kill them when they resist.

The statement was jointly signed by Messrs. Charles Oputa, Convener, OurMumuDonDo Movement; Deji Adeyanju, Convener, Concerned Nigerians; Adebayo Raphael, Publicity Secretary, OurMumuDonDo Movement; and Professor  Chidi Odinkalu, former Chairman, National Human Rights Commission.

"The murder of this 10-year-old child, the future and hope of his family, and indeed this nation, is unacceptable. This state of affairs where the Nigerian political elite murder Nigerians cannot be allowed to continue. We call on President Muhammadu Buhari to live up to his oath to secure the lives of Nigerians by ordering an investigation of the circumstances of this little child's death," the groups said in the statement.

They added that President Buhari, being Commander-in-Chief, has full responsibility to ensure that the country's security agencies are not used to oppress the people. They called on Nigerians to pray for and support the Ibeanusi family that has not lost a child and their means of livelihood, which was forcefully taken away by the government.

POLICE ARRESTS 75 YEAR OLD MAN,OTHERS FOR SELLING GUNS TO VIGILANTE GROUPS WITHOUT LICENCE

Operatives of the Zonal Intervention Squad attached to Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos, have arrested a 75-year-old man, Olayiwola Araba, for allegedly supplying guns to vigilante groups without license.   The other suspects identified are 45-year-old Olarewaju Kabir, 35-year-old Oladele Jacob and 40-year-old Jide Akinola,who were said to have been arrested at different locations in the state.   The operatives who effected the arrest were said to have recovered nine rifles, two pistols and live ammunitions.Confirming the arrest, Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent of Police and zonal spokesperson, said the suspect was arrested for selling guns without license.   She said: "We are holding the seller and the buyers for illegal possession of firearms, because the seller has no document to show he has the approval of the police authority to sell guns to the public.   "We are going to conduct a discreet investigation into the business to identify the routes through which it come into th...

The Nigerian government has reacted to the killing of a Nigerian identified as Rasak Alao in South Africa. Recall that the Nigerian man, an auto mechanic, was on Thursday killed in South Africa after he was attacked alongside other Nigerians in Polokwane, Limpopo Province in South Africa. Reports indicated that the men were attacked following suspicions that they were into drug trafficking. A teenage father with a tattoo covering half his face saying DEVAST8 has cried out over his struggle to get a job. 19 year old Mark Cropp , who was recently released from prison, put a plea out on Facebook saying his facial tattoo was stopping him securing employment. He also said his tattoo which is not gang affiliated- wasn 't planned and was not supposed to be quite as big. A bloody clash between the army and police in Nigeria's restive northeastern Yobe state on Wednesday left one soldier and three police dead, a security source told AFP.  The police confirmed the fracas in the state capital of Damaturu, but did not say if there were casualties.  "The Nigeria police force is abreast of the unfortunate incident that occurred in the early hours of today 12th April, 2017 in Damaturu between the personnel of the force and that of the Nigerian army," police spokesman Jimoh Moshood said in a statement.  He said an investigation had been launched to determine "the causes of the incident and deal with the situation appropriately to prevent such occurrence in the future".  The army authorities were not immediately available for comment.
