GUNMEN ABDUCT WOULD-BE COUPLE AND FRIENDS

Gunmen Sunday abducted a would-be couple, the best man and their friends at Akunnu-Akoko in Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State on their way to Akure, the Ondo State capital for their engagement ceremony.

THISDAY gathered that the groom, Moses Yakubu, his would-be wife and three of their friends were coming from Okene in Kogi State and heading to Akure for the engagement slated for Sunday when the car in which they were travelling was seized at gunpoint at Akunnu-Akoko.

The father of the bride, Mr Ahmed Yakubu, who confirmed the incident, said the bride and her younger sister were later set free by the kidnappers but took away the groom and his friends.

The abductors, it was gathered, were yet to ask for any ransom from the family members as at the time of filling this report.

Following the abduction, family members and invited guests at the venue of the engagement located on Ogungbolahon Street, off Aule Street, Akure all wore mournful looks as they were all worried about the situation.

NIGERIAN ARMY AND POLICE CLASH BLOODY,4 DIE

A bloody clash between the army and police in Nigeria's restive northeastern Yobe state on Wednesday left one soldier and three police dead, a security source told AFP.  The police confirmed the fracas in the state capital of Damaturu, but did not say if there were casualties.  "The Nigeria police force is abreast of the unfortunate incident that occurred in the early hours of today 12th April, 2017 in Damaturu between the personnel of the force and that of the Nigerian army," police spokesman Jimoh Moshood said in a statement.  He said an investigation had been launched to determine "the causes of the incident and deal with the situation appropriately to prevent such occurrence in the future".  The army authorities were not immediately available for comment. MAN IN CUSTODY FOR ASSAULT ON PREGNANT WOMAN February 22, 2017; An Osun Magistrate Court sitting in Ile-Ife has docked one Dayo Adebayo, 29, for alleged assault on a pregnant woman.   The prosecutor, Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on February 13, around 11:45 pm at Ehindi Street, Ile-Ife.Osanyintuyi, said Adebayo assaulted the woman named Blessing Monday, by hitting her with his fist across her face, causing various injuries.He added that the offence was contrary to and punishable under section 356 of the Criminal Code (Cap 34 Vol 11), Laws of Osun, 2002. A disgruntled husband killed his wife during their cruise-ship vacation because "she would not stop laughing at me," according to newly filed court papers.
