GUNMEN ABDUCT WOULD-BE COUPLE AND FRIENDS

Gunmen Sunday abducted a would-be couple, the best man and their friends at Akunnu-Akoko in Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State on their way to Akure, the Ondo State capital for their engagement ceremony.

THISDAY gathered that the groom, Moses Yakubu, his would-be wife and three of their friends were coming from Okene in Kogi State and heading to Akure for the engagement slated for Sunday when the car in which they were travelling was seized at gunpoint at Akunnu-Akoko.

The father of the bride, Mr Ahmed Yakubu, who confirmed the incident, said the bride and her younger sister were later set free by the kidnappers but took away the groom and his friends.

The abductors, it was gathered, were yet to ask for any ransom from the family members as at the time of filling this report.

Following the abduction, family members and invited guests at the venue of the engagement located on Ogungbolahon Street, off Aule Street, Akure all wore mournful looks as they were all worried about the situation.

A young teenage couple accused of snatching their newborn baby from hospital have been briefly reunited with their daughter after five days apart. Jayden Lavender, 14, and fiancée Jenifer Morrison, 15, smuggled three-day-old Aria out of the hospital in Sydney at 12.30am on Thursday. Their disappearance sparked a huge search before the pair were found safe and well 16 hours later after spending a night camping with the infant. 2 TERRORIST COMMANDERS SURRENDER SELVES TO POLICE

The Borno State Police Command said on Wednesday that as a result of "Operation Safe Corridor," the counter-terrorism effort of the Nigerian military, two high profile commanders of the Boko Haram militant group have surrendered, along with their families. In a statement to newsmen in Maiduguri by its public relations officer, DSP Victor Isuku, the command said that 13 civilians were also rescued from suspected kidnappers, with two of the hoodlums dying of injuries received in a gun battle with the police. Two AK-47 rifles were also recovered. Unknown Gunmen Kill University Student, Watchman In Jigawa. 17th Feb 2017, A 27-year-old university student, Muhammad Garzali, was killed by unidentified assailants at Kafinhausa town of Kafinhausa Local Government Area of Jigawa. Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Abdu Jinjiri, an ASP, said that Garzali was murdered alongside a 60-year-old watchman, Ali Dan-Katsina, at a motor park in the area.
