GUNMEN ABDUCT WOULD-BE COUPLE AND FRIENDS

Gunmen Sunday abducted a would-be couple, the best man and their friends at Akunnu-Akoko in Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State on their way to Akure, the Ondo State capital for their engagement ceremony.

THISDAY gathered that the groom, Moses Yakubu, his would-be wife and three of their friends were coming from Okene in Kogi State and heading to Akure for the engagement slated for Sunday when the car in which they were travelling was seized at gunpoint at Akunnu-Akoko.

The father of the bride, Mr Ahmed Yakubu, who confirmed the incident, said the bride and her younger sister were later set free by the kidnappers but took away the groom and his friends.

The abductors, it was gathered, were yet to ask for any ransom from the family members as at the time of filling this report.

Following the abduction, family members and invited guests at the venue of the engagement located on Ogungbolahon Street, off Aule Street, Akure all wore mournful looks as they were all worried about the situation.

FORMER BBC STUDIO CORDONED OFF AFTER MAN'S BODY WAS DISCOVERED

A man’s body has been discovered on the former BBC studios site in Manchester city centre. The body was found this morning at the building site on Oxford Road, which is currently being transformed into student flats. Greater Manchester Police have been called to the scene and the area has been taped off. Forensics officers have also been seen combing the area. Police are working to establish the circumstances behind the man’s death. The victim is believed to have been discovered by building site staff on Monday morning. It is thought he gained access to the building site over the weekend. A prophet of the Cherubim and Seraphim (C & S) Church in Lagos, Mr. Alimi Isaiah, 55, has been arraigned before the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan for allegedly being in possession of human skull and a horn. Barely one week after a policeman lost his service rifle to unknown gunmen, another policeman has been attacked and killed by unidentified hoodlums in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital. The unnamed policeman was reportedly killed in a beer parlour in the state capital. LEEDS, Ala. A 12-year-old girl died Sunday after authorities believe she was accidentally shot by a family member during a gathering in Alabama, according to multiple reports. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Monday identified the girl as Kayla Mendenhall, AL.com reported. Authorities told the news site that Kayla and an adult family member were wrestling when a gun worn by the adult discharged. Kayla was shot in the upper leg and died at a hospital.
