KING BANS DIVORCE

Swaziland King Mswati III has issued a decree at his Easter meeting with local pastors at the Engabezweni Royal Residence banning divorce in the southern African nation.

 Africa Review quoted the Times of Swaziland newspaper that King Mswati told the pastors to educate the people that there was no pulling out once they got married.👳👳

 “In our culture, once you marry someone, there is no turning back,” the Times of Swaziland quoted King Mswati as saying.

 The decree comes in the wake of the Swazi Attorney-General Office’s drafting the Marriage Bill of 2017, which contains five grounds for divorce.The existing Marriage Act of 1964 prohibits divorce.The newspaper quoted King Mswati comparing marriage to a covenant with God, pointing out that it was wrong for people to break agreements made with the latter.

 The Kingdom of Swaziland in southern Africa is one of the world’s last remaining absolute monarchies.It has, according to UNICEF, the highest HIV/Aids prevalence rate in the world.Some 210,000 of Swaziland’s 1.2 million population were living with the HIV infection.

 King Mswati III was crowned in 1986 at the age of 18, succeeding his long-serving father King Sobhuza II, who died at the age of 82.

 The king, 49, who is known as Ngweyama – “the lion” – has many wives and often appears in public in traditional dress.He is also permitted to choose a new bride every year.

Amilcar Henriquez shot dead in his Panama home . Police in Panama say national team soccer player Amilcar Henriquez has been shot dead while leaving his home. The press chief for Panama’s National Police says the killing happened Saturday in the country’s Colon province. Authorities say a gunman shot the 33-year-old midfielder several times. Another two people were wounded. The player died at a nearby hospital. President Juan Carlos Varela has condemned the killing on his Twitter account. He is calling for authorities in Colon to find those responsible. Henriquez was part of the Panama team that is trying to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. He played in the last 20 minutes of Panama’s 1-1 tie with the United States last month and has appeared 75 times for his country.

A fire incident which happened on Saturday evening at Makoko and Satellite Town areas of Lagos State, has left a seven-day-old baby dead, and copies of West African Senior School Certificate Examination results badly burnt. The Rivers state deputy governor, Dr Ipalibo Banigo, in a statement on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, asked the Police and other law enforcement agen­cies to ensure that the suspect is re-arrested and brought to justice without delay. She stressed that the report that the suspect es­caped from the hands of the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) is "totally unaccept­able and very embarrass­ing." Banigo who condoled with the bereaved family on the gruesome murder of their daughter, said that "as a mother, I am still numb with shock to hear that a man could defile an eight-year-old girl and go ahead to mutilate her body for purported money rituals."

Appeal Court confirms Ali Modu Sheriff as PDP chairman 17th February 2017 The Court of Appeal has declared Ali Modu Sheriff as the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Kogi herbalist to die by hanging for killing 2 brothers A herbal medicine practitioner and ritualist, Ibrahim Mohammed, has been sentenced to death by hanging for killing two brothers in Koton-Karfe area of Kogi State. He was accused of killing two brothers, Muhammed Kudu Abubakar and Umar Tanko. The herbalist was said to have administered poison on them before hitting them on the head with a pestle and then buried their corpses in a shallow grave in his compound. The accused person had earlier pleaded guilty to the charges.
