PALESTINIAN PRISONERS IN ISRAELI JAILS BEGIN HUNGER STRIKE

Hundreds of Palestinians held in Israeli jails are beginning a mass hunger strike in protest against their conditions.

 The action is being led by Marwan Barghouti, a Palestinian leader jailed by Israel for life for five murders.

 Barghouti, a key figure in Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah faction, has been touted as a possible future successor to Mr Abbas.There are fears the protest could fuel tensions across the occupied West Bank.

 According to Israel’s prison service, 1,187 Palestinians in Israeli prisons are joining the hunger strike, which coincides with the annual Palestinian Prisoners Day.The issue of Palestinians held in Israeli jails is an ongoing source of tension between the two sides.

 Palestinians regard the detainees as political prisoners, many of whom have been convicted of attacks against Israeli and other offences.

 Others are detained under so-called Administrative Detention, which allows suspects to be held without charge for six-month intervals.

 There were about 7,000 Palestinians held in Israeli jails by the end of last year, according to Palestinian prisoners’ groups.

Benue State Police Command has busted two kidnap syndicate of 8 including a Gang of 4 allegedly led by a woman believed to be an associate of the wanted militant leader, Terwase Agwaza, aka Gana, who a week ago abducted a businessman. The police operation also led to the arrest of three women whose responsibilities were to provide food for the victims, who was rescued alive. The businessman was kidnapped alongside his son, who was later released to source N20 million as ransom for his father.  The state's Police Commissioner, Bashir Makama, said: "During investigations, we discovered that the lady, who was arrested had the responsibility of pencilling down those to be kidnapped and those to be killed by the gang. They are all associates of Gana, the wanted militant leader. Also arrested, after reliable information, is one Victor Ayanngor, who conspired with Ordue Abraham, Kelvin Dankor and Emmanuel Terver to kidnap his girlfriend and collect N200,000 ransom."

3 SUSPECTED THIEVES ARRESTED AT THE LAGOS HIGH COURT

File Photo The Police at the Lion Building Division, Lagos Island, Lagos have arrested three suspected thieves who allegedly jumped into the High Court premises at Igbosere Road on Lagos Island at midnight with dangerous weapons to steal. The suspects, according to a Police source could not succeed in their plans before the Police stormed the scene to arrest them and took them to the station following a distress call to the Police by the securitymen attached to the Court. Taheeb Udusole, 27, met his victims on social media while pretending to be a 17-year-old boy called, Daniel, who was rich due to his father being an African king.  The unemployed Nigerian offered the girls, aged 14 and 15, gifts and money while he sent taxis to collect them and bring them near his home in south-east London.
