3 SUSPECTED THIEVES ARRESTED AT THE LAGOS HIGH COURT
The
Police at the Lion Building Division, Lagos Island, Lagos have arrested
three suspected thieves who allegedly jumped into the High Court
premises at Igbosere Road on Lagos Island at midnight with dangerous
weapons to steal.
The suspects, according to a Police source could not succeed in their plans before the Police stormed the scene to arrest them and took them to the station following a distress call to the Police by the securitymen attached to the Court.
The suspects were arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate Court on a three-count charge of felony with attempt to commit felony at the High Court, Lagos.
Police identified the accused persons as Ahmed Mohammed, 29; Musa Yusuf 22 and Sulaimaan Umar, 28, all from the Northern parts of Nigeria.
Police Prosecutor, Sgt Chinedu Njoku informed the Court in charge No B/64/2017 that the accused persons committed the alleged offence on 22 September, 2017 at the High Court, Lagos Island, Lagos.
Njoku told the Court that the accused persons entered into the High Court premises at about 1.45am by scaling the fence with dangerous weapons with intent to steal and in the ensuing confusion they damaged some Louvre.
Njoku said that the timely intervention of the Police from the Lion Building Division prevented the accused from succeeding in their mission.He said that the offences the accused committed were punishable under sections 411, 406 (1) and 339 (1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused persons pleaded not guilty in the open Court and Chief Magistrate Folashade Botoku granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
Botoku adjourned the case tiill 12 October, 2017 and ordered that the defendants be remanded at the Ikoyi Prison, pending when they are able to perfect the bail conditions.
