WOMAN STUNS COURT AS SHE ALLEGES "POLICE DEMANDED SEX TO GRANT BAIL"

A Lagos High Court was stunned today as a 27-year-old detained housewife, Mrs Victoria Amodu, accused an Investigative police officer (IPO) at Special Anti Robbery Squad, Ikeja Division, of demanding sex before she could be released from custody.
Victoria, who gave the testimony as a defence witness, told Justice Kudirat Jose of an Ikeja High Court that the IPO (name not mentioned) demanded that unless she had sex with him, she wouldn’t be allowed home on bail.

However, the mother of four children, Victoria testified as a witness in a matter she is standing trial for alleged conspiracy and armed robbery.Victoria, who denied the allegation, is standing trial alongside one Hammed Isiaka on a six count charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and armed robbery. 

One of the charges reads, “Hammed Isiaka and Victoria Amodu and others now at large on or about August 12, 2014 while armed with a pistol did rob one Elizabeth Moses of a cash sum of N35, 000 and a cheque of N1.4m”.

An offence contrary to Sections 295(2)(a) of the Criminal Law No 11 Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
However, while being led in evidence by her lawyer, Nelson Onyejaka, Victoria told the court that she was unjustly arrested by the police on August 12, 2014 at Church Bus stop, Badagry Lagos.

US MILITARY SAYS SENIOR ISIS COMMANDERS KILLED IN AFGHAN AIR STRIKE

Several senior members of Islamic State's central Asian affiliate were killed in a U.S. air strike in Afghanistan, officials said on Sunday. The attack on Thursday killed Abdul Rahman, identified by the U.S. military as the Kunar provincial emir for Islamic State of Iraq and Syria-Khorasan, according to a statement from the command in Kabul. "The death of Abdul Rahman deals yet another blow to the senior leadership of ISIS-K," said General John Nicholson, the senior U.S. commander in Afghanistan. Three other senior ISIS-K members were also among those killed in the strike in eastern Kunar province. Nicholson has vowed to defeat Islamic State militants in Afghanistan this year. Jerusalem – The U.S. Army has inaugurated its first military base in Israel,which sends a message of readiness to Iran in the region, local media reported on Tuesday. The base's opening comes as Israel faces a slew of regional threats, especially from its Iran, Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth said. The Israeli military said the new base is located inside an existing Israel Air Force base in the southern region. The American military base houses dozens of U.S. soldiers operating radar device alongside Israeli soldiers as U.S. radar has been operational on site for a decade, using American civilians to operate it.

SOUTH SUDAN REBELS SAY THEY HAVE RETAKEN TOWN NEAR BORDER WITH ETHIOPIA

South Sudan's rebels on Saturday said they had wrested control of Pagak, their stronghold town near the country's border with Ethiopia, from government forces, a day after launching an offensive to drive them out. Formerly controlled by the rebels, the town was captured by South Sudan's military five days ago but heavy fighting erupted on Friday with rebels vowing to retake it. "We took control of Pagak...government forces are not in Pagak, we have pushed them out," rebel spokesman Lam Paul Gabriel told Reuters. Dickson Gatluak Jock, spokesman for South Sudan's Vice President, Taban Deng Gai, denied the military had lost Pagak but said they had lost three soldiers in the fighting while four were wounded.
