COURT REMANDS 14 PRO BIAFRA GROUP MEMBERS

An Aba Magistrate Court has remanded 14 suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) for arson and murder.

The Police had arrested IPOB members after clashing with soldiers in the Southeast, where a police sergeant was also allegedly killed by members of the group.

IPOB members were also alleged to have burnt down two mosques in Aba.

The suspects were arraigned on an 8-count charge which includes the murder of ASP Cyril Nwosu,the burning of the Ariaria Police station and exhibit vehicles as well as theft of pump action rifle belonging to the Police.

Prosecuting counsel, ASP Nnamdi Ogbonna, held that the court has jurisdiction to make an order on the matter and pleaded with the court to commence the trial.

The presiding Magistrate, Ogbonna Adiele, directed the Police to submit the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), thereby adjourning the case to October 4, 2017, for report on compliance

The State Security Service (SSS), on Saturday, announced the arrest of Husseini Maitangaran, a top commander of by Islamic State of West Africa (ISWA), otherwise known as Boko Haram. He was arrested in Kano on 31 August.  Maitangaran, according to a statement issued by the service, spearheaded several deadly attacks in Kano in 2012. Policemen from the Ipakodo division have arrested a suspected killer of a family of three in Ibeshe Titun, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State. It was learnt that the suspect, whose identity had yet to be ascertained, was arrested on Tuesday in the community. A resident, who asked not to be identified, said the suspect had been taken into custody and was being interrogated by the police. He said, “The man was arrested this morning (Tuesday) and he confessed to being a member of the gang that attacked and killed members of the family. He was beaten to a pulp by an angry mob as he also mentioned the names of their sponsors. German national dies after slumping at Lagos airport A German national, Mr Brenard Christo, who slumped  on Friday  at the General Aviation Terminal of the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos, has died at an undisclosed hospital. The spokesman for the Lagos Airport Police Command, DSP Joseph Alabi, confirmed the death of the German to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)  on Saturday . Alabi said the deceased was waiting to board a local Arik Air flight  on Friday  morning when he suddenly collapsed.
