COURT REMANDS 14 PRO BIAFRA GROUP MEMBERS

An Aba Magistrate Court has remanded 14 suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) for arson and murder.

The Police had arrested IPOB members after clashing with soldiers in the Southeast, where a police sergeant was also allegedly killed by members of the group.

IPOB members were also alleged to have burnt down two mosques in Aba.

The suspects were arraigned on an 8-count charge which includes the murder of ASP Cyril Nwosu,the burning of the Ariaria Police station and exhibit vehicles as well as theft of pump action rifle belonging to the Police.

Prosecuting counsel, ASP Nnamdi Ogbonna, held that the court has jurisdiction to make an order on the matter and pleaded with the court to commence the trial.

The presiding Magistrate, Ogbonna Adiele, directed the Police to submit the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), thereby adjourning the case to October 4, 2017, for report on compliance

POLICE ARREST 4 INTERNET FRAUDSTERS,EFCC TAKES CHARGE

  Four suspected internet fraudsters have been arrested in Benin City, Edo State, by the Nigeria police and have been handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes commission,EFCC. The EFCC in a statement issued on Tuesday gave the names of the suspects as Shiko Romeo, Bobby Edigiu, Henry Nisike and Emmanuel Ayo. The suspects, according to the EFCC, have reportedly confessed to their involvement in internet fraud using fake identification on Facebook. Their victims were mostly European and American women, the statement said. The EFCC said one of the suspects, Mr. Romeo, who claimed to be a student of the National Open University, NOUN, has revealed how he scammed the duo of K. Zamaripas and Susan of various sums of money by feigning to be in a romantic relationship using the name John Culfer in New Jersey, United States. The suspects would be charged to court at the end of the investigation, the EFCC said.

Man fights armed robber for stealing girlfriend's phone, collects gun A suspected armed robber, Michael David, has been arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Lagos State, after he robbed a lady, identified simply as Kate, of her phone. PUNCH Metro gathered that 22-year-old David and two other members of his gang, while armed with a locally-made double-barrelled pistol, attacked Kate and her boyfriend, one Desmond, on Close 26, Satellite Town, Ijegun, around 10pm. They were said to have taken Kate's mobile phone and threatened to shoot the couple dead if they resisted. The gang had allegedly mounted a waiting motorcycle and were about speeding off when Desmond summoned courage and attacked the men. He was said to have succeeded in pulling down David, as his girlfriend called for help. Attempts by the suspect to shoot the victim failed, as the gun reportedly jammed. CAMEROONIAN DIES IN ALLEGED NIGERIAN LOVER'S HOUSE

It has been reported that a Cameroon international kicked the bucket after an alleged romantic encounter with a woman who hails from the Niger Delta region. The 37-year-old Cameroonian man died in yet-to-be-ascertained circumstances in the home of his alleged lover in Ogboinbiri community of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. The death of the Cameroonian man, identified simply as Dr. Charles, a patent medicine dealer, on Tuesday, has, however, stirred controversies. Some indigenes of Ogboinbiri community claimed the Cameroonian died after an alleged sexual encounter with his unnamed 35-year-old lover, said to be an indigene of the community. Youths and traders protest customs invasion of rice warehouse Feb 23rd 2017; Some youths and traders have brought activities and vehicular movement on the ever busy Lagos-Abeokuta expressway to a halt, following a protest over alleged invasion of the rice market by men of the Nigerian Customs Service.The protest which was said to have lasted for hours, took the intervention of the Sango Ota Police Area Commander, Adegoke Fayoade, to restore normalcy to the area. Meanwhile, the Customs Public Relations Officer, Federal Operation Unit, Jerry Attah, dismissed the claims of market invasion, explaining that men of the command on surveillance noticed smugglers were moving rice in bulk on motorcycles from a canoe to a store in the area. Two people were killed and eight others were wounded May 7, 2017, in an attack near the site of a memorial where a man was slain earlier in the day in the Brighton Park neighborhood, police said. It happened in the 2600 block of West 46th Place, police said. The men and women gathered at a makeshift memorial Sunday, down the block from where a man in his 20s had been found shot to death between parked cars in the Southwest Side's Brighton Park neighborhood.
