DIEZANI ALISON-MADUEKE'S LOOT GREATER THAN GENERAL ABACHA'S

Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, says the funds allegedly stolen by the former Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke, surpasses that of former Head of State, late General Sani Abacha.

Magu further said only 15 percent of Diezani's loot have been recovered by the anti-graft agency.

He told reporters that the agency was already making moves to facilitate the extradition of the former minister and to recover the rest, which will take some time.

"We are working on the process of Diezani's extradition. But we have to allow the UK government because we are collaborating,"

"There is the National Crime Agency and the Crown Prosecution Service in London, and our colleagues, the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation in America. We had cause to meet in London for about a week. We are working not only on the Diezani case, but the Diezani case has become a test case.

"It is even more notorious than the so-called Abacha loot because we have not seen anything yet. I'm sure what we have seen is not more than may be 15 percent. I think it is going to be a long time.

"That is why sometimes I think we should appeal to the looters to return the loot. Then the government will take a decision. I think it is the best way to go about it, otherwise, the monies would be wasted."

Magu added that the EFCC is in collaboration with "almost all law enforcement agencies in the world" to recover loot stashed abroad by Nigerians.

Gunmen suspected to be militants on Thursday morning invaded Lagos State Model College, Igbo Nla, Epe, Lagos, abducting the principals and some students. The kidnappers were said to have stormed the school in the early hours when the students were at the morning assembly. The gunmen abducted the principal of the junior secondary school, Mr. Oyesola and Mr. Akirinmade who is the Principal of the senior secondary school. They also abducted some of the students. Presenting the case to the House of Representatives, the member representing Epe Constituency, Wale Raji, appealed to the House to call on the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State to treat the case with utmost urgency. The State Security Service (SSS), on Saturday, announced the arrest of Husseini Maitangaran, a top commander of by Islamic State of West Africa (ISWA), otherwise known as Boko Haram. He was arrested in Kano on 31 August.  Maitangaran, according to a statement issued by the service, spearheaded several deadly attacks in Kano in 2012. German national dies after slumping at Lagos airport A German national, Mr Brenard Christo, who slumped  on Friday  at the General Aviation Terminal of the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos, has died at an undisclosed hospital. The spokesman for the Lagos Airport Police Command, DSP Joseph Alabi, confirmed the death of the German to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)  on Saturday . Alabi said the deceased was waiting to board a local Arik Air flight  on Friday  morning when he suddenly collapsed.
